While the demons are mustering the courage to attack him, Ongkot decides he has time for a final affront to to the Longka court.  He snaps off the ridge piece of the roof and the carving of the four-faced guardian god Prom and throws them down to break into pieces at Totsagan's feet.

Above the uproar Ongkot hears the demon king shout despairingly, "Will no one bring me the head of this monkey ambassador?" and knows that it is time for him to go.  With a final taunt of "Yours is the head that will roll, not mine," Ongkot flies up into the air and, having thrust aside the two doormen and smashed the palace doors, returns to the monkey camp.

Heartbroken and filled with shame, the demon king retreats to his inmost sanctum.  He has been insulted before his own court, four of his guards have been butchered before his eyes, the tutelary god of the palace has been cast down, and a pack of monkeys has invaded his kingdom and threatens to invest his capital.

Alone in his chamber, he broods on these reverses.  How will it all end, he wonders.
